Episode 2: The Things From the OVerworld

Mike says, "OOC: Anyway."

Okay, you've found the pit of green amoeba monsters. You've covered yourself in Lye so you have Resist Acid 16. Whatcha going to do now?

Niamh says, "Hmm."

Akio asks, "I believe there was discussion about pulling the ruins of the house down on them?"

Voice of John Biles exclaims, "You could try to do that!"

Niamh says, "Perhaps we could dig a pit, fill it with lye, cover it well, and then get either Sam or Kiara to lure the creatures into following them over it."

Kiara asks, "If they come out of the crater, that could be cool. OOC How long would it take to dig said pit?"

Manny Mo'Jac says, "OOC THe GM notes that you would need to either buy or make a lot of lye to fill a pit with it."

Manny Mo'Jac asks, "OOC How big a pit do you want?"

Mike says, "OOC: We don't have to fill it full to the brim, just like a small amount in the bottom."

Mike says, "Like half a foot."

Manny Mo'Jac says, "OOC IF you're making a shallow pit with a thin layer of lye, I'd say it's going to take about a half-hour with all of you digging, but you will need to either buy the lye or make it yourself; that will eat..."

Tobias asks, "You mean with our edged weapons that apparently do nothing?"

Manny Mo'Jac says, "OOC Yes, you could collect the brush while getting the wood to make lye."

Tobias says, "I mean, my attacks will work, but the Rogues won't."

Tobias says, "And neither will Vendrik's."

DaR From Another Place says, "mmm. wonder how well fighting with torches, Strider stylez, would work."

Akio asks, "Why do we think they're immune to that again?"

Tobias says, "You know, I think maybe forget filling the pit with lye. We'll just drop burning brush down on em."

Frito says, "Well, we're assuming they won't work because Kiara saw metal floating around inside them. I could be wrong."

Voice of John Biles says, "Torches count as Light melee weapons."

Tobias says, "I mean, if they're slime creatures..."

Tobias says, "Oooo, yeah, torches."

Frito says, "I like torches. Torches go burrrrrrrn. :)"

DaR From Another Place says, "probably less a downgrade than half damage or whatever their resistance to piercing and/or slashing damage might be."

Tobias says, "Okay. How does this sound: We dig a pit cover it, pile brush beside it, the rogues lead them into the pit, we light the brush and shove it down on em, and then the rogues go to dtown with torches and the rest of us with spells."

Akio says, "I'm okay with this."

Sniper Ox says, "sure"

Voice of John Biles says, "Okay. Someone will need to make an Intelligence check to conceal the pit; the difficulty is only a 10 because these things are not super-smart."

Tobias says, "If someone has a background that can get... yeah, exactly."

DaR From Another Place asks, "One of our rogues have trap making/handling skills?"

Akio asks, "John, is Dungeoneering at all relevant?"

Frito says, "Kiara's got 5 points in Thieving, but her intelligence ain't so hot."

Akio says, "I think that makes me best, then. I have an effective +6."

Frito says, "Ah, +7? OK."

Frito asks, "Roll 'em?"

Niamh, while the others are digging the pit, goes and gets a scarecrow from one of the nearby fields and brings it back.

Niamh puts it in the pit before the cover is applied.

DaR From Another Place gathers branches, quickly striping them and wrapping them in rags recovered from the house ruins and soaked in oil, to make crude torches.

Kiara digs and gets ready to conceal!

Manny Mo'Jac exclaims, "OOC Roll 'em!"

The pit is super-well concealed.

You all position yourselves close enough to rush in. Which rogue is going to act as bait? This is going to take either a Charisma 10 check to bluff them or a Dex 15 to draw them to the pit, then cross without making it obvious they will fall in.

Frito says, "Kiara's got an 18 Dex and a 16 Cha, so she'd be good either way."

Sniper Ox says, "think kiara's got it then"

Manny Mo'Jac says, "OOC Okay. You can basically use Dex + Thievery + Level, so +10 with a DC of 15"

Manny Mo'Jac asks, "OOC Travis?"

Kiara goes up to the edge of the crater. "Heeeeeey, green mucky boys! Come and eat this, if you got it!" She sticks out her tongue at them, then turns around and runs towards the pit going 'Woob! Woob! Woobwoobwoob!'

Niamh admits, "An effective way of getting their attention, I suppose."

The creatures follow Kiara out of their pit, then fall into your pit; you all rush up and set the brush on fire, pushing it in; the scarecrow ignites as Kiara planned. Everyone roll +5 to hit against PD 15 (You just created a Hazard)

The creatures rise up, trying to engulf and devour Niamh, Kiara, and Samantha, while missing Vendrik and Harrowhawk. Each struck PC loses 6 HP and a Green Amoeba is Clinging to them; while it clings, it has a special attack. You can get it off you with a DC 15 Strength check with a standard action; you get a save to break free at the end of your turn; this is an 11+ average save

Vendrik assesses the field and then C) sticks it in, jamming his torch into the slime before him.

The slime burns to green ashes.

The ashes are oddly crystalline.

Kiara asks, "OOC Can I do a direct attack on it while it's clinging to me? OTOH, could I use a Tumble to roll it in fire as an attack, and how much damage would I take doing it?"

DaR From Another Place says, "Dicebot is currently dumb. It only looks for 'roll' at the begnning of a line or after a double-quote. New dicebot will have a different d20+1 syntax that prevents that need, but it can't yet handle all the things the old dicebot does, like dX+dY or the (xN) multipliers."

Niamh calmly, rather than trying to break free, instead dives further INTO the slime's embrace, being engulfed completely. And then a second later her form swells and explodes outward into a huge black bear, ripping the slime into bits as it contemptuously opens its arms wide and stands up on its hind legs, then ambles out of easy melee range, leaving only slime droplets staining the ground.

Nuno turns into a half-bear/half-Nuno thing and does a little victory dance on Niamh's shoulder

Kiara laughs and gives Nunny a thumb's up.

You try to break free without luck.

New round! Escalation die gives the party +1 to hit.

But foes go first

Samantha's foe tries to engulf her completely.

Samantha is engulfed; she loses 8 HP (10 left) and is weakened (save ends). That's -4 to hit and -4 to Defenses

The other one charges at Harrowhawk.

Result is: (1d20+5) 25, crit for Manny Mo'Jac

Harrowhawk takes 5 damage but instead of it clinging to her, it absorbs some of her flesh and grows into this bizarre green creature - take a head, give it one giant eye, a huge mouth with fangs, and two long, thick legs, tall as a human.

Manny Mo'Jac says, "OOC Its defenses are now 19/17/13"

DaR From Another Place grumbles. "Just realized I had a perfectly good move action I could have used after the attack to cover the squishies."

Mike says, "roll 1d20+9"

Result is: (1d20+9) 24 for Mike

Akio asks, "John, shouldn't Rod have gotten an end-of-round save?"

Akio says, "I could have sworn you said save ends the clinging."

Voice of John Biles says, "Doh, yes."

Vendrik time! One is confronting Harrowhawk, one is trying to eat Samantha

Niamh warns the others, "GRRRAWR-WOOOROORR! Grrrawar gwroooarar grwarrr!" Then has the grace to look a little embarrassed.

Kiara snickers, and mimes Numo translating for Niamh.

Nuno roars, but it sounds like a loud chicken.

Tobias says, "Someone may want to pick up the one on Harrow so that she can heal Sam in peace."

Frito asks, "Either Vendrik or I could; Dan, you want to take it, or should I?"

Vendrik engages the one that just transformed, swatting it with his shield and then sticking the torch in it. "Like cookout! Making marshmallows! See, not so bad, Samantha?" (flexible melee attack for Pull it Together) d20+6 d6+5

Result is: (d6+5) 8 (d20+6) 19

Vendrik says, "OOC Pull it togther goes off. Sam may heal Recovery plus additional 1d4."

Kiara applauds. "Good one! Time to light 'em up!"

Manny Mo'Jac says, "OOC Your recovery is a D8 + your Con bonus, rod, with the extra d4 from Vendrik."

Manny Mo'Jac exclaims, "OOC Kiara time!"

Samantha Hunter says, "roll 1d8+2"

Result is: (1d8+2) 7 for Samantha Hunter

Samantha is at 21 HP

Manny Mo'Jac exclaims, "OOC Kiara!"

Frito asks, "OK, so is Rod still engulfed? And would attacking the one on him risk hitting him?"

Manny Mo'Jac says, "OOC Harrowhawk will be after Kiara. "

Voice of John Biles says, "He still is and if you miss it, you roll to hit him"

Frito says, "Ugh. Well, let's give it a shot, as Merc can do another heal if necessary."

Voice of John Biles asks, "What are you attacking with? Torches?"

Frito says, "Yeah."

Voice of John Biles says, "I will note that you will get sneak attack damage on this."

Kiara says, "Let's see if we can't clean this thing off you, Sammy." She swipes at the jelly-thing with a torch.

Harrowhawk misses the creature with her holy light, while it tries to head-butt her to death but misses.

Manny Mo'Jac says, "OOC Niahm-Bear! Then Samantha after her"

DaR From Another Place says, "Reminder that anything attempting to disengage from me is at -5 to the check."

Niamh blurs and changes back into her human form. "I apologize in advance if this maims you, Samantha," she says gravely, then points her staff at the slime. "Garbanzo Sepulveda's Ray of Frozen Flame."

Manny Mo'Jac says, "OOC Roll me a d20, Mike"

However, you miss by one point and some of the burning brush freezes

Voice of John Biles says, "Frozen Flame basically hits BOTH vulnerabilities"

You've still got a very hurt slime on you!

Niamh warns the group (now that she can talk), "If the big one is not killed by fire, it will split into four smaller ones upon 'death'."

Kiara shrugs. "Great day to have a bonfire." She grins. "And what a lovely way to burn."

Tobias says, "If you have an idea for buckling your swash, Rod, might be a good time for that. Just sayin'."

Frito says, "She could try the same thing Kiara did."

Voice of John Biles says, "He has to get Momentum to actually use Swashbuckle, though"

Akio asks, "Do you have fire based attacks, Mike?"

Voice of John Biles says, "IF you successfully shaodow walk, you can vanish out of its grasp. That's a Charisma vs MD attack"

Voice of John Biles says, "But you use Intelligence, due to having Cunning"

Frito says, "I was wondering if Shadow Walk might work."

Samantha vanishes; the one on her falls to the ground, confused.

The one formerly on Smantha tries to eat Vendrik.

He shines with holy light. "LUKE THUNDERSTRIKE, CHOSEN OF THE GREAT GOLD WYRM, IS HERE!"
