Episode 7: The Last Days of the Tomb (maybe)
Okay, the slimes are dead and the hallway they guarded leads to a northern and an eastern door; each is clearly locked. (DC 20 Dex check with Background + Level to pick it)
DaR From Another Place asks, "Have we rested?"
Voice of John Biles says, "I believe the prognosis was to go ahead and take a rest so you could refresh everything."
Tobias says, "Yes. We did that. With magic dragon soup. And rolled our icons."
Akio says, "Yes."
Voice of John Biles says, "Yeah."
DaR From Another Place says, "Yay. I haz recoveries again."
So what cha going to do?
Frito asks, "Want me to try picking a door, or does Samantha want to give it a shot?"
Akio says, "This be a rogue problem."
DaR From Another Place has a lockpick. Size 16-double wide, with extra grippy treads.
Akio says, "I think we need to accept, based on this dungeon, tho, that FINDING traps is going to be Niamh and Harrow."
Akio says, "But DISARMING them be the Rogues."
Sniper Ox asks, "uh, spymaster do for lockpicking?"
Voice of John Biles says, "Yes."
Chel says, "roll 1d20+4"

Frito says, "Not bad. :)"
Manny Mo'Jac asks, "OOC North door or eastern door, Rod?"
Samantha asks, "OOC the guarded door was north, yes?"
Manny Mo'Jac says, "OOC THe slimes were guarding access to both"

Samantha picks the lock, then realizes too late the door is coated with contact poison that leaks into the air nearby and she's breathing poison; she opens the door but jumps back out of poison range; there is a circular room beyond, whose floor is packed with gems and silver coins.
Said room is a dead end.
Samantha says, "well. We needed funding. here's funding."
The east door remains shut.
Samantha examines the eastern door
Kiara says, "If it's real. Hey, should you be coughing like that?" She sounds kinda curious.
Numo choses this moment to begin doing the 24 Imperial exercises. This sometimes causes hia hands to slam into Niamh's head, though he can't do any real damage.

The eastern door is locked but looks totallly harmless.

Luke spits lightning at the door
Niamh says, "Actually..."
Then HITS IT WITH HIS HALBERD

The door cracks in half
And falls
Luke shouts something incoherent about the triumph of the Great Gold Wyrm.
Niamh says, "...or that works too."
Beyond that door is a long, arched room; at the far end is a four foot high dias with steps, mounted by a sarcophagus marked with the Archmage's sigil.
Samantha tries to recover from the poison
Sniper Ox asks, "what's a recovery roll again?"
Voice of John Biles says, "Your recovery die + Con bonus"

Samantha says, "roll 1d8+2"

Kiara says, "Woah, Archmage sign. Nammy, I think you're up."

Niamh carefully examines the room from the doorway, frowning slightly.
Harrowhark says, "The fear ward anchor... one of them at least... is either inside or under the sarcophagus."
Mike says, "roll 1d20+9"

Harrowhark says, "The sarcophagus itself is nothing less or more than it appears to be, which is unusual."
Harrowhark says, "I sense no taint of undeath in the room."
Harrowhark asks, "Niamh, what say you?"
Niamh waves her hand and mumbles a few times. Once she makes a slow pass with her staff. Another frown, then a low sigh. "The room itself bears no enchantments or dweomers. There is, however, magic either inside or under the sarcophagus. It is possible there are mundane traps, but if there are they are too cunning for me to spot."
Harrowhark says, "... yes, Niamh. The fear ward is inside or under it."
Niamh says, "Given the Age and what we have thus far seen in this tomb, it would not surprise me if there is also a golem inside to serve as a guardian."
Niamh says, "But that is merely conjecture."
Harrowhark says, "The sarcophagus should be enchanted, but is not. Curious."
Niamh says, "Not if opening it is conductive to the defense of the room."
Luke prays quietly, facing the sarcophagus, making hand signs.
Numo imitates Luke, but all his hand signs are obscene.
Harrowhark says, "At the risk of being the least classy lady here, perhaps we should examine the room full of eye-popping wealth first."
Kiara looks at Luke. "He may have the right idea at that. Archmages are your bailiwick, Nimmy, what kinda stuff are you supposed to do to show respect?"
Vendrik says, "Maybe this time money is not tin with paint and glitter on."
Samantha says, "I'd like to make sure nothing rises up to kill us while we're hauling off the loot."
Kiara says, "Besides, he may have kept the best stuff for himself." She looks at the sarcophagus. "So to speak."
Harrowhark shrugs. "If we have to retreat and leave the loot behind because we do not know if it is safe to touch, that's on you."
Niamh says, "First of all, this is not the tomb of an Archmage, but one of his apprentices."
Niamh says, "Second of all, there are a number of methods for honoring a deaad wizard from this period. Not looting their belongings and grave goods or breaking into their tomb, sadly, is the most basic of these."
Niamh says, "However, I can instruct you on some of the classier methods."
Niamh drones on about various offerings, many of which involve tomatos.
Harrowhark carefully examines the side room full of coins and gems, without crossing the threshold.
Niamh says, "...and then place the sliced tomato on the grilled cheese, put it on a plate or board, and leave it before the tomb."
Kiara says, "What about a simple 'Hey, dude, we got monsters crawling out of your tomb and we came to fix that, hows about a little help?'"
Akio says, "Okay, so, are we committed to moving into sarcophagus room, or checking out loot room? I say we do the latter, but I don't feel strongly enough about it to press the issue if I'm outvoted."
Niamh shrugs. "You may do that. It is not a standard rite. It may work. It may do nothing. I do not know."
Tobias says, "I'm fine with checking out loot room, although we should be ready for attack from sarcophagus room if we do."
Frito says, "Not feeling hugely strongly about it myself, but Rod and Mike raise a good point. Fine with Mike's plan."
Akio says, "I think it goes without saying that whatever we do, we should be ready for an attack from sarcophagus room."
Akio asks, "Dan? Rod?"
DaR From Another Place says, "No particular preference."
Sniper Ox says, "LET'S DO THIS! LLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOY"
Akio asks, "Then let's examine loot room. Mike, can you fetch a couple coins or perhaps a gem with magic and/or Numo?"
Tobias says, "Ayup."
Voice of John Biles asks, "Gonna mage hand it?"
Tobias says, "Ayup. Just waiting for us to act ICLy."
Niamh goes when the group is ready, and from the doorway uses Mage Hand to bring back a coin and a gem.
Samantha faces the other room, just in case

Niamh says, "The gem I lifted appears to have some sort of explosive quality."
Harrowhark says, "... huh."
Harrowhark says, "The coins might be more valuable to a certain kind of collector or historian than they are AS silver."

Samantha asks, "is the coin, at least, made of real valuable metals?"
Luke bites the coin. "Real silver!" It's now got teeth marks in it
Niamh studies the gem from afar for a bit, then frowns. "It appears to be a proximity explosive. It will detonate if anyone gets too near."
Niamh says, "It seems likely to me that the rest of the gems, or at least a good number of them, are the same."
You could remove all the coins; it would require you to spend about two hours; there's perhaps 3000 or so coins.
Manny Mo'Jac says, "OOC This would not require a roll, just time."
Harrowhark says, "We may not want to spend the time now."
Harrowhark says, "That's the better part of a ton of silver."
Harrowhark says, "Getting it out of the tomb is going to require porters and such."
Harrowhark says, "We'll need to make the place safe first."
Tobias asks, "I wouldn't think we'd need porters, would we?"
Akio asks, "Can YOU carry that much silver?"
Kiara says, "Aww." She starts rubbing her fingers together.
Tobias says, "I mean, we could make several trips, and two of us are very strong."
Tobias says, "We don't have to carry the whole thing up in one go."
Tobias says, "But the point is I don't actually know; this is something to ask the DM about."
Voice of John Biles says, "Silver pieces are only about 1/10th of a pound, so that's 300 pounds of silver"
Akio says, "That's way less than I thought. Okay, we can all carry that if we divvy it up."
Frito says, "Yeah, shouldn't be a problem."
Akio says, "We may want to take the time to move it all out, then."
Akio says, "I keep forgetting how much lighter than gold silver is by volume."
Frito says, "Something to check when John gets back is whether there's anything buried in the coins."
DaR From Another Place says, "D&D since 3e generally normalizes coins weights to 10 or 50 per pound. Your feeble "density" is for lesser realities."
Akio says, "Vendrik must be sad the gems go pop."
Tobias says, "I'll point out that we have yet to establish if ALL the gems go pop."

Akio exclaims, "That's true. Seems like that's a job... for the wizard!"

Niamh makes a quick gem survey. She never actually brings one into danger distance, but lifts a number with Mage Hand and examines them to see if they have the same spell as the first one on them.
Niamh thinks all the gems are bombs.
Vendrik is a sad.
Samantha says, "oh well."
Niamh is also sad.
Kiara says, "There any way to store them safely? Might make cool throwing weapons."
Kiara asks, "Put 'em in a backpack with Mage Hand, maybe, then drag it on a cart behind us?"
Niamh says, "Store them? Yes, that might perhaps be possible. Safely? No."
Kiara pouts. "Someone went to all that work creating them, I hate to see 'em go to waste."
Niamh says, "I invite you to imagine a squirrel running across the road and over the backpack."
Kiara waves a hand in surrender. "OK, OK, you made your point."
Niamh says, "I for one am very happy to see a trap designed specifically to kill me go to waste."
DaR From Another Place says, "'They are like fizzy candy in drinks!' 'Vendrik, do not eat the exploding gems.' 'Such crunch!'"
Harrowhark asks, "Shall we get to work clearing the silver?"
Kiara says, "Hey, all the more reason! Then you get to stick your tongue out at the guy trying to kill you, because you got to turn his stuff to your benefit."
Niamh says, "'We'."
Niamh takes a seat on the ground and begins hauling out coins with Mage Hand.
Kiara says, "If you separate out the gems and keep 'em far enough away, the rest of us can hold our breaths and start moving."

Niamh gets as far as 500 coins out before she realizes - the floor has risen slightly, as if all this weight is holding it down.
Akio says, "This archmage knew how to make a dungeon."
Niamh sighs.
Niamh says, "Vendrik, I am going to need you to fetch me some stone or rubble."
Voice of John Biles says, "This dude killed the Princess of Cogs and Gears AND killed the Cabalist"
Vendrik says, "..."
Niamh says, "The floor is rising in the room as the weight is removed. We're going to have to replace the weight we take out with new mass or I fear we shall set off some infernal mechanism."
Vendrik says, "Yes, yes, come Lizard, we fetch rocks for keeping floor down. Oppressing of floors is like oppressing of peasants."
Niamh says, "No."
Luke says, "I think we'll have to go back tot he cave-in; there should be a lot of loose rock there."
Niamh says, "Leave Luke here."
Harrowhark asks, "Why?"
Luke blinks. "What?"
Harrowhark says, "There's an enormous, truly stupendous, pile of fake coins just down the corridor."
Harrowhark says, "We can swap them for the real ones."
Niamh says, "Ah, good idea, Harrow."
Kiara says, "...good point."
Niamh says, "Those shall do nicely."
Luke says to Niamh, "What do you need me for here?"
Harrowhark works out a rota of them all to bring the coins down the hallway to Niamh to swap out for the silver.
Niamh says, "I don't want the party camped in front of that tomb, with this floor half-up, and no front line."
Luke nods.
Vendrik gathers bags from a few people, then goes off to ferry fake coins back.
Kiara joins Vendrik, whistling a tune that sounds suspiciously like '16 Tons'.
Okay, several hours go by and you gradually remove all the coins from the room, replacing them with the fake coins.

DaR From Another Place says, "Gather them in a pile. Then, when we inevitably trigger the zombies, golem, or whatever, you can hurl the whole pile at it/them."
Tobias says, "Good idea."
Frito says, "Works for me, just want to be careful not to make the boom too big."
Niamh heaps not all, but a decent portion of the gems into a pile inside the treasure room, for possible remote flinging.
Manny Mo'Jac says, "OOC So they stay in the treasure room, but piled up? No problem."

Harrowhark asks, "Haul some of the false coins in here and pile them up so they can't swing around?"
Niamh says, "Wouldn't the weight of them just flip the plate before you could step on it?"
Kiara looks up at the ceiling to see if there's any place she can snag a grappling hook and swing across.

Kiara asks, "Well, if you don't have any better ideas, I'll give it a swing?"

Harrowhark says, "Luke said the floor would only flip over and dump us into a pit if we step on the FAR end of the plater."
Harrowhark asks, "So they're counterweighted so this near end, near us, is safe. Yes?"
Harrowhark asks, "And if we pile up weights on this end they won't be able to swing around on their hinge. Yes?"
Luke says, "Assuming the weights can't slide."
Tobias says, "I'm gonna be honest, the desc of exactly how the floor is is kinda vague and not real clear. Especially the four plates."
Voice of John Biles says, "There are four pit traps in different parts of the room that go off once you advance on them some."

Frito asks, "So basically, cleverness won't help much, we just need to make a disable check?"
Tobias says, "The impression I got was that... look, take a square. At foint points in each quadrant of the square with a pole at it. Resting on each pole is a floor. if you step on that floor towards the edges away from the pole, it will dump you in the pit."
Tobias asks, "Is that basically what we've got here?"
Voice of John Biles says, "Yes."
Akio says, "Okay, that's different, then."
Akio says, "I think Travis is right."
Tobias says, "Yeah, we need to disarm or bypass."
