Vendrik attempts to carve up the remaining big orc he's facing d20+12 2d10+5+1d4.

He comes apart and collapses into a puddle of blue-black goo and stawberry ice cream.
Sadly, these bozos had no chance to get treasure before they died.

Kiara shakes the goo off her dagger, sheathes it, and grins wryly. "Well, that was a bit exciting."

The good news is that you have no more problems before you reach the Death Tree of Ming; it is some eight hundred feet tall, towering over even this forest, though somehow you couldn't see it until you got close; it has its roots stuck in a river and is drinking. It does not respond to your arrival. There are tree-houses in the branches, connected by ladders; you know there is a likely a chamber inside it with its 'heart' but where that is tends to vary by dungeon.
There are two ladders, to the first tree-houses, one on the north side, one on the south side.
Kiara asks, "OOC Does it look like there's been any activity around the tree-houses?"
Harrowhark examines the dungeon critically.
Niamh studies it with interest. "Should we attempt to make camp before entering, or wait until we are inside? That irritation earlier consumed my strongest attack spell."
Akio says, "JKohn, give me the DC of a Dungeoneering check to find a safe spot to make camp this near the dungeon where we'll likely be unmolested."
Voice of John Biles says, "This is not a very safe place, but you can try to find a hidey hole. Roll a DC 20 check."
Harrowhark says, "roll 1d20+7"
Result is: (1d20+7) 16 for Harrowhark
Akio says, "Nerp."
Harrowhark finds a place she thinks is safe.
Kiara examines the tree dubiously. "On the whole, fun as it'd be to swing from tree-house to house, I'd like to rest up a little first."
You set up your camp and post watches, just to be sure.
But at 2 AM, the Murder Trees come for you.

Round 1. There are six murder trees, closing in from the south. Anyone who beats them at init can move and attack int he same round; so can they. Niamh, then Luke, then Vendrik, to start with!

They are not mooks and they basically shuffle around on their roots and grab with branches.
Niamh uses her movement to scamper back behind Vendrik and Luke, then raises her wand and fires Garbanzo Sepulveda's Ray of Frozen Flame over their heads at the branches of the lead murder-tree.

The murder tree howls in rage as some of its branches burn.
And freeze at once.
Niamh calls out in a cold voice, "You will find only fire, axes, and sawdust here, wood-devils. Begone!"
Luke challenges that tree, spits lightning at it, then attacks with his halbard, expecting it will otherwise seek vengeance on Niamh.

That tree is now staggered, though his lightning misses it.
