The Stone Thief is the oldest known living dungeon. Some people think it is the god of Living dungeons or possibly an avatar of Jammanderu. It is huge, perhaps the size of a small town, able to eat small towns and fortifications; it assimilates the most interesting things it eats into smaller dungeons inside itself; one expedition discovered an entire Dwarven temple inside it, now staffed by monsters and golems.

It is worshipped by a cult of lunatics which periodically grows and has to be destroyed, the Cult of the Devourer. They believe it is the hand of Jammanderu or possibly IS Jammanderu. They're crazy. There is a long affiliation of this cult with halflings and ogres, but most of the cult is usually human. They are high on the Inquisition's list of Enemies of the Empire.

The most famous achievements of the Stone Thief:

  • Eating an entire naval squadron; survivors reported there is an ocean inside the Stone Thief
  • Devouring Quillgate Library, an arcane repository of secrets which once stood on Throne Point
  • Surviving a rain of thousands of swords from the sky (no one is sure why swords rained from the sky) in the fourth age
  • Eating one of the Dwarf King's treasuries in Forge
  • Swallowing and killing the entire XIII Legion; since that time, there is no 13th Legion
  • Eating a Koru Behemoth
  • Eating an entire legion of Gnolls, their demonic allies, their temple, and their children

in the 10th age, it devoured the city of Ironspire on on Forbearance 8, 4588, wrecking a time of gnomish prosperity and made for Axis. So the Emperor came after it, mauling it, but it escaped deep underground. Its injuries were grave and it was not seen again until the twelfth age. But even today, it seems to wander aimlessly, having perhaps somehow lost its ambition in that battle; it is dangerous but not feared as it once was. That, though, may be a mistake. It has only made fairly small scale attacks since then.

The most recent attack of the Stone Thief that is commonly known was a year ago, when he devoured Marblehall, home of the Artalin family.
